Who here is a music photographer? Hands up!... Or, a press photographer? Good, and which ones amongst you have tried to use or actually DO use a netbook in the field to upload time critical content to your employers? (Getty, PA, Cobram daily news - etc) Has your experience been a good one or has it had you in the middle of Trafalgar Sq cursing the day Windows was invented? (Matt?!) What is your experience with 3G or HSDPA networks, Netbooks and uploading your content?
So, a survey amongst Amazon users has these three bad boys in the top seats... (Asus, no surprises there...)
1. ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X-BK 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - 10.5 Hour Battery Life
2. HP Mini 110-1109NR 10.1-Inch White Netbook - Up to 3.5 Hours of Battery Life (Windows XP)
Interesting that the top three spots have two Asus netbooks in amongst and one HP...
With 1. you get Windows XP home (ugh) and a year long subscription to Wired magazine - that's lovely. With number 2, the HP, you get 160gb HD (same as number one) and Windows XP home - again... then, with number three, you get a good solid Asus netbook, you get a larger 250gb HD and you get Windows 7 (Starter) and 10.5 hours of battery life (Which probably means about 4 hours at a stretch)
So, three examples, one of them white like an iSomethingOrOther and all of them under $400.00 USD... Can you see the benefit? Would a netbook work for you?
When you combine a Netbook with MiFi you turn into a "go anywhere" "upload anything" machine, right? ...wrong! But more on that next week
Netbook experiences, go!
