Think Tank Photo Urban Disguise 35 V2.0 Review

I'm the guy that looks after much of the social media for the camera bag company, www.thinktankphoto.com and, it's great fun and very insightful - we have lots of amazing photographers that share content, thoughts and ideas with us on a daily basis and we also have, in my opinion, some amazing camera bags! (Don't take my word for it, google some reviews and see what you think, or better still, check one out yourself!) ...one of the othe benefits of working with TTP is that, from time to time, I can review a bag for you good people... The Urban Disguise 35 V2.0 is a 'petit' camera bag* that carries a DSLR with 70-200 f2.8 attached, plus a 13.3” or 10” laptop plus "stuff"... (*small but big!)

Let me explain the 13" or 10" bit... inside the main section, between the main camera section and the laptop section, the wall can be undone and shifted across into the "full size dSLR position" so that you sort of end up with a shelf for the base / battery grip of your pro dSlr to rest on / against... in picture 1, below, you can see the divider in position.. and, below that, it's folded to accomodate a Pro / Battery gripped dSLR..

You can also see the top of a Canon 70-200 IS F/2.8 MKII lens, hood reversed, in the main / middle pocket. But, in the image above, the section to the right, just above the body cap on my lens, that's where your battery grip or pro body would rest.

If the divider is folded down, you won't fit a 13" laptop in under it, you will fit (very easily) an iPad or a 10" NetBook... or two yummy, well made sandwiches!..

You can see in the image above, the grip is over the edge of the folded down divider, and sitting there nicely. The camera is a Canon 30D and it has a Canon 70-200 F/2.8 IS MKII attached and, yes, it is badly white balanced - sorry! :-) You can also see just to the left, the top of my Canon 580 EXII poking through to say hello.. it fits in there easily with the Camera and Lens..

If you wanted to take a 70-200 f/2.8 and the 24-70 f2.8, you could, with either attached to the camera, but you'd need to put your flash in the front pocket, which you can do really easily (see below) you can also slip it into the side elasticated pockets, but it would have much protection and could be pinched by some rascal...

So, yes, many ways to carry a Flash... oh, and all that flashing is going to make you thirsty, can you carry a Sigg water bottle? Yes...

OK, so it carries a Pro Size camera body with a 70-200 f/2.8IS attached, and it also holds the 24-70 along side it, both with hoods reversed, and the flash can fit in there somewhere.. as well as the included waterproof cover... So, where does the laptop go? well.. If you're carrying a pro size camera, it's a squeeze, but you can do it (I did it, but of course it's up to you how you do it) ..otherwise, with a standard sized dSLR body / lens combo, you just pop the laptop in the laptop compartment and it looks and fits a lot like this... (it's late, I'm eating mince pies, drinking coffee, listening to Kings of Leon and enjoying SHALLOW depth of field!)

It's not a big bag, though, with two pro lenses and a pro body, squeezed in there with your 13" laptop or your 10" netbook, it's going to get heavy - the UD35V2.0 comes with a well padded shoulder strap (detachable) that won't slip off your shoulder unless you're at the beach and covered in oil... it can have the TTP backpack harness attached if you'd like to wear it as a backpack, the bottom of the back pocket can be opened to allow you to slide it down over the handle of one of the Think Tank Photo roller bags...

Much better if you take your pro-body and stick it in the front expandable pocket, lenses and laptop in the main section / laptop section - - avoids things that go bump in the night.

It will not take a 17" MacBook Pro unless you cut part of the laptop off.. I don't know if a 15" MacBook Pro will fit, and if someone does know, please let me know.

Here's a few more images to help you decide if it's potentially right for you!...

Above, some brothers from another mother.. the Urban Disguise 35 V2.0, the Urban Disguise 60 V1 and the (coolest camera bag on the planet) Retrospective 20 in Pinestone...

and, finally...

I use the 35V2 when I need to take the MacBook to a press shoot for wiring after the shoot, it fits what I need -> laptop, Canon 5DMKII, 70-200 f/2.8, 24-70 f/2.8 and a 580EXII flash... It's built like a little baby tank, has very sturdy zips and certainly doesn't scream "camera bag" thus the name, Urban Disguise...

EDIT: Frank, Technically, they're very similar bags, the pocket on the front of the V2.0 has been redesigned and opens across the top and down to one side, the V2.0 is also slightly larger inside the main pocket. I don't own the V1.0 in the UD35 size, I do own (and use daily for travelling to work) the UD60 V1.0 --Sime
